Farnham v Epping Foresters Cricket Club Foresters 1st XI on Sat 02 May 2015 at 1.30
Epping Foresters Cricket Club Won by 162 runs

Match report On a breezy day at Farnham the Foresters lost the toss and were put into bat on what looked like a fairly flat deck. Stevie Barrick and Frenchy opened the batting but resistance didn't last long with the experienced Grieggs frustrating Barrick into a slog across the line and ending up bowled. Farnham didn't need to wait long for the next breakthrough coming 5 balls later when newly arrived Azza Halls got a ripper from Sanford that cut back from well outside off to take middle stump leaving Foresters 18 for 2 in the 5th. Poole and French looked to consolidate but the temptation of the slow gentle out swingers was just too much for Frenchy, following the only 6 of the match Frenchy couldn't resist dishing out another helping only to be caught on the boundary edge. In strode man of the match Jack Capewell to commence his imperious knock and whilst the Farnham bowlers were testing and teasing the Foresters batters there was always a loose delivery to ease the pressure. In the final over of Grieggs spell Poole cut a wide long hop straight to point where he was unluckily caught in the fielders trousers. Ellis was in next but didn't last long knicking off to the spin of Radley leaving Foresters on the brink at 93 for 5 at the mid point of the innings. Capewell stepped up with incoming batsman McGuinness to put on a stand of 88 in 14 overs guiding the Foresters out of trouble and into the box seat. Wickets tumbled as the Foresters put the pedal down with Hurwood going for a 2nd ball duck, McGuinness caught trying to clear the ropes and Jack Capewell unselfishly ran himself out pushing for late runs. Harry Capewell added some vital lower order runs with stroke play of the highest quality seeing the boys through to 223 for 9 in 45 overs.

Farnham's reply started nervously with the opening over going for a couple of thick outside edges but the Foresters attack of Louis Ellis and Dan Hurwood were extracting good bounce and pace from the track causing problems. With the aggression of Ellis and Guile of Hurwood Farnham were quickly reduced to 17 for 5 after a tremendous bit of bowling from Ellis taking 2 wickets in 2 balls. The Farnham lower order showed some considerable resistance but were not troubling the scorers allowing the foresters to increase the pressure. Poole turned to his spin option and the introduction of Ricky Ellis looping leg breaks broke the resistance and McGuinness mopped up the tail with some measured and controlled line and length.

Great start to the new season well done boys with a special mention to Dance Captain Tinsley top work.
